Local Businesswoman Honored with Other VIPs
Chester, New Jersey (April 28, 2007) Being honored by your high school for professional contributions to the business world may not sound especially notable, but when the other inductees include a former head of the FBI and a surgeon who pioneered the use of robotics in cardiac procedures, people take notice.
Since the Hall of Fame's inception 8 years ago, St. Joseph of the Palisades High School in West New York, NJ, has only honored individual and team alumni for athletic achievements and prowess. This year, the scope of the nomination process was broadened to include those who have made significant contributions to the professional community, and Debra Taeschler, a Chester, NJ, resident and President of GràficaGroup, also of Chester, was one of 3 honored at a ceremony at St. Joseph's on April 28.
"When the nuns of St. Mary's provided the financial aid my mother needed so I could attend St. Joe's, little did I realize the path that lay ahead. Having lost my dad at the age of 12 and struggling with all that meant, St. Joe's became my home," said Taeschler.
The other 2 inductees were Louis Freeh, the 15th Director of the FBI (from 1993-2001), and Michael Argenziano, MD, an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Columbia University and Assistant Surgeon, Director of Robotic Cardiac Surgery and Director of the Surgical Arrhythmia Program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center.
"The school is celebrating its 75th birthday, and we decided to expand the Blue Jay Hall of Fame recognition to a broader group of alumni," said Jim Clarke, Development Director at St. Joseph of the Palisades.
Taeschler founded GràficaGroup in her home basement in 1986 and grew the organization to one of 42 employees that now occupy a landmark 15,000 square-foot office building on East Main Street in Chester. GràficaGroup is a highly respected integrated and interactive advertising agency in New Jersey and was ranked by AdWeek and Advertising Age magazines as one of the Top 10 Integrated Agencies in New Jersey and one of the Top 100 Interactive Agencies in the country, respectively.
In addition to being recognized in high school as a National Honor Student and Vice President of the Student Council, Taeschler graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude from Rutgers-Newark while attending on a War Orphan Scholarship; received the 2003 Alumna of the Year Award from Rutgers-Newark College of Arts and Sciences; was inducted in the NJ Advertising Hall of Fame in 2005; and appointed to the Board of Directors of the Direct Marketing Association of America, the leading global industry trade association, in 2005.
According to Taeschler, much of GràficaGroup's success has been the company's ability to customize plans to target specific markets by using technology and consumer databases effectively. Her belief is money can be best spent after analyzing the results of a trial balloon and then developing fewer, more meaningful marketing messages rather than bombardment of a mass market.
