Tamburri Takes a "Front-Row" Seat at Gráfica

Award-winning writer behind famous Bob Uecker Lite Beer spot joins a New Jersey Creative Team

Chester, New Jersey (November 29, 2004) — Today, GráficaGroup officially announced the hiring of Bob Tamburri as an Associate Creative Director and Senior Copywriter. Tamburri had been working as a consultant to Gráfica (www.grafica.com), but now has joined the agency full time. He recently played a key role in the creative development of several television campaigns that Gráfica produced for the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General. Although these spots concern serious issues ranging from insurance fraud to voter registration to do-not-call telemarketing legislation, the "Tamburri touch" of humor is clearly evident, and it's the humor that takes the creative to a higher level.

"Since Bob Tamburri finally made it official and became one of us, I have been unable to stop smiling," said John Pearson, Creative Director, GráficaGroup. "Bob is a real pro who combines the right mix of wisdom and wit essential for making great advertising. I know that all of Gráfica's clients are going to feel the impact of his talent, and then I won't be the only one smiling!"

Tamburri has worked in advertising for more than 20 years and is most well known for the hugely popular Miller Lite TV spot featuring Bob Uecker's famous line about being in the "front row!" Tamburri received The One Show Gold Pencil Award for that spot, which contained the catchphrase that became synonymous with Uecker, making him a favorite among sports fans around the country. Following on the heels of "Front Row," Tamburri's team created a series of spots — "Ski Lift" and "Uecker in Boston With Tip O'Neil" — highlighting Uecker's self-deprecating sense of humor. Uecker went on to lampoon himself as a baseball announcer in the movie comedy Major League and was the star of the TV sitcom "Mr. Belvedere." Today, he is the TV play-by-play announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers.

"Uecker was great to write for, and, of course, a laugh riot," said Tamburri. "I loved working on the Miller Lite campaign, which included spots starring a lot of other notable sports personalities, like Sparky Lyle, Bert Jones, Bob Lanier, and John Madden. And the public loved them, too. I think that's because people respond to brands that are not afraid to show their human or humorous sides. Laughing is one way to show you're human, and, at the end of the day, no matter the brand, in advertising, we're trying to connect people with one another."

In addition to his long copywriting stint for Miller Brewing Company, Tamburri created the long-running Miller Genuine Draft "Snow" campaign for the brewer. He also has experience writing and producing advertising for some of the biggest brands in the nation, including Burger King, British Airways, Campbell Soup Company, Johnson & Johnson, Memorial Sloan-Kettering, General Mills, GMC, Gorton's Fish, Hyundai, Imodium, Lactaid, and Mexico Tourism. His work has been recognized with advertising awards including The One Show Award and the Clio, as well as prizes from CA, London International, and the Art Director's Club.
